முல்லைத்தீவு மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் பகுதியில் சிறிலங்கா படையினர் நடத்திய பீரங்கித் தாக்குதல்களில் நிவாரணம் பெற காத்திருந்த 32 பேர் உட்பட 134 தமிழர்கள் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளதுடன் 199 பேர் காயமடைந்துள்ளனர்.
அனைத்துலக செஞ்சிலுவைச் சங்கக் கப்பலில் நேற்று வியாழக்கிழமை கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட நிவாரணப் பொருட்களை மக்களுக்கு வழங்கிக்கொண்டிருந்தபோதே இத்தாக்குதல் நடத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

நட்டாங்கண்டல் தற்காலிக மருத்துவமனைக்கு அருகில் இன்று காலை 10:30 நிமிடமளவில் மக்கள் வரிசையில் நிவாரணங்களைப் பெறுவதற்காக கூடிநின்றபோது சிறிலங்கா வான்படையின் வேவு வானூர்தி படம் எடுத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தது.
அந்தவேளையிலேயே சிறிலங்கா படையினர் தரையில் இருந்து அகோரமான பீரங்கித் தாக்குதல்களை மக்கள் கூடிநின்ற குறித்த பகுதி மீது தாக்குதலை நடத்தினர்.
பீரங்கிக் குண்டுகள் மக்கள் மத்தியில் வீழ்ந்து வெடித்தன. இதனால், 32 பேர் கொல்லப்பட்டும் 43 பேர் காயமடைந்தும் உள்ளனர்.
சிறிலங்கா படையினர் நடத்திய திடீர் தாக்குதலில் கொல்லப்பட்ட மக்களின் உடலங்கள் ஆங்காங்கே சிதறிக் கிடக்கின்றன. காயமடைந்தவர்கள் மருத்துவனைக்கு எடுத்துச்செல்ல முடியாத நிலையில் தரையில் படுத்திருந்தவாறு அவதிப்பட்டனர்.
இதேவேளையில் நேற்று வியாழக்கிழமை பிற்பகல் 5:00 மணியில் இருந்து இன்று பிற்பகல் 3:00 மணிவரை 2 ஆயிரத்துக்கும் அதிகமான எறிகணைகளை மக்கள் செறிவாக இருந்த பகுதிகள் மீது ஏவினர்.

மக்கள் செறிவாக இருந்த பகுதிகளை நோக்கி கனரக பீரங்கி சூட்டுத் தாக்குதல்களும் நடத்தப்பட்டன.
இத்தாக்குதல்களில் நிவாரணத்துக்காக காத்து நின்றவர்களில் 32 பேர் தவிர முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் பகுதியில் 102 பேர் கொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளதுடன் 156 பேர் காயமடைந்துள்ளனர்.
