Nadigar Sangam Fast on Sri Lankan Tamil’s issue

CHENNAI - Almost the entire Tamil cinema actors today turned up for the day-long fast to express their solidarity with the affected Tamils in the ongoing offensive in Sri Lanka.The big stage was painted black. Most of the actors turned up in black attire, to show their protest to the continued killings of Tamils in the island nation.

It was one of the most heart-warming sights: all the actors of Kollywood, irrespective of the differences in their mother tongue, religion, ideologies, political affiliations, beliefs stood united for the Tamils of Sri Lanka. They might be from different states and might have different mother tongues, but they all are Tamils in heart because Tamil Cinema is the one that gave them their identity.The protest saw the participation of almost all the top artistes including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Sarathkumar, Ajith, Vijay, Surya, Prabhu, Arjun, Lawrence, Jayaram, Nayantara, Sneha, Trisha, Ramya Krishnan, Mumtaz, Manorama, Vijaykanth, Mansoor Ali Khan, Karthik, Napoleon, Sundar C, Radha Ravi, Sathyaraj, Vadivel, Y.G. Mahendran, J.K. Riteesh, Rajesh, Dhamu, Vivek and Karunas among others.

Justifying the struggle of Sri Lankan Tamils for a separate homeland, stars of the South Indian film industry, Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan today appealed to the international community to support the Tamils as it was an issue concerning human rights.

Launching a scathing attack on the Sri Lankan politicians, Tamil super star Rajnikanth, who participated in the fast organised by the South Indian Cinema Artistes Association, said:

“You denied equal rights for Tamils. They began fighting for their rights. You have all the military power, the army, the navy and air force. But, still you are not able to defeat them for the last 30 years.”
“Innocent people, women and children should not be killed by a government in in any country. It should not continue”, he said.

The matinee idol, who is adored by millions of Tamil youths, said: “Tamils are fighting for their place for the last 30 years. Let them have their place,” in an obvious support to the struggle of Tamils for a separate homeland.
Another star actor, Kamal Haasan, in an apparent reference to taking of arms by Tamil youths, said: “Everyone accepts that non-violence is good. But, people should understand that no one takes to arms without any provocation.”

“People who fight for independence can be called terrorists today. After winning freedom, they will become martyrs,” he said.

இலங்கை பிரச்னையில் உலக நாடுகள் தலையிட வேண்டும்: கமல்

இலங்கைப் பிரச்னை என்பது குறுகிய வட்டத்தில் அடங்கும் பிரச்னையல்ல.அது உலகளாவிய விவகாரம். அங்கு போர் நிறுத்தம் கொண்டு வர உலக நாடுகள் முன்வர வேண்டும் என்று நடிகர் கமலஹாசன் கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்.

எங்கெல்லாம் இனப் படுகொலை நடைபெறுகிறதோ, அதனை உலகநாடுகள் ஒன்று சேர்ந்து எதிர்க்க வேண்டும். இங்கே உணர்ச்சிகளைக் கொட்டக் கூடாது, உணர்வுகளை மட்டுமே வெளிப்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்று கூறினர்.

உணர்ச்சிகளைக் கொட்டியதால் இரு இயக்குனர்கள் முட்கிரீடத்துடன் சிறை சென்று, மலர்க் கிரீடத்துடன் வெளியே வந்துள்ளனர். என்றாலும், சில நேரங்களில் உணர்ச்சி மேலிடுகையில், சிலவற்றைப் பேச நேரிடுகிறது.

இலங்கைப் பிரச்னையைப் பொருத்தவரை அங்குள்ள தமிழர்கள் சம உரிமை கேட்கிறார்கள். அதற்கு உத்தரவாதம் இல்லாத நிலையில், தீவிரவாதம் உருவாகிறது. இறுதியில் விடுதலை கிடைத்ததும் தீவிரவாதிகள் தியாகிகளாகச் சித்தரிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள்.

இலங்கை தமிழர்கள் அவர்கள் சொந்த நாட்டில் வாழ முடியாமல், வேறு நாடுகளில் அகதிகளாக தஞ்சமடைகிறார்கள். நாம் அவர்களுக்கு புகலிடம் அளித்த போதிலும், தமிழர்கள் என்பதால் அவர்களுக்கும் தன்மானம் இருக்கும்.

இலங்கைப் பிரச்னையை தீர்ப்பதற்கு, மத்திய- மாநில அரசை நாம் வலியுறுத்திய போதிலும், எங்கெல்லாம் இனப் படுகொலை நடக்கிறதோ, அதனை உலக நாடுகள் கண்டிக்க முன்வர வேண்டும்.
