Ponni (K.R. Vijaya) is a talkative girl, who joins a rich household as a domestic help. Her employer Raja (Jaishankar) falls in love with her and is keen to marry her. But Raja’s father is against him marrying an uneducated girl. Nevertheless, Raja is firm about his decision. His love for Ponni tranforms him from an irresponsible and flamboyant young man to a responsible person. Raja even manages to complete his studies with Ponni’s earnings. Finally they get married, but Ponni’s rustic mannerisms and language cause a rift between them. Usha, Raja’s old lover wants to take advantage of this situation and win Raja’s love. Moreover Raja’s father encourages him to divorce Ponni and make a fresh start with Usha. Ponni feels helpless, while Raja falls into the trap laid by Usha.
